The Baby Boomer Challenge
The impending retirement of “baby boomers” combined with longer life expectancies will place pressures on the resources necessary to sustain the rising standard of living that Americans have come to expect and will potentially strain government safety net programs for senior citizens.
CHALLENGES FACING BABY BOOMERS
Despite the fact that Baby Boomers own the lion’s share of this country’s financial assets, three in every 10 Boomers are “not at all satisfied” with their financial situation and only 26 percent of Boomers “always know which types of investments are ‘right’ for them”. Today’s economic environment reflects the absence of company pensions, dramatic increases in the cost of living, looming healthcare costs, as well as the fear that Social Security could potentially begin running at a deficit by the year 2018.
